Dr. Chargois was pleased with the revisions in my intern plan to include other Resource Persons other than Self. He referred me to the Administrative Assistant for the Board of Trustees as a resource for activities 30a and 33b. Ms. Teal was able to provide agendas, reports, and minutes that covered the past 6 months. During the visit Dr. Chargois discussed the implementation of STAAR /CScope for this school year, stating the focus is preparing the students for "College and Career Readiness". Even though I currently perform duties at the elementary level he felt the importance to be knowledgeable about the 15% Rule interpretations and EOC guidelines/expectations. He also, made arrangements for me to visit the Personnel Manager to obtain a copy of the job description I plan to evaluate for activity 29a. He encouraged me to balance my time wisely to ensure I produced quality performance outcomes with the summary activities in the plan.
Also, I visited with my second Site Supervisor, Ms. Lydia Bahnsen, who is the former ELAR Supervisor for our district, but currently the Principal of Regina-Howell Elementary, as well as enrolled in the doctoral program with Lamar University. In her comments, she reminded me the importance to transfer knowledge and skills from campus level to district level. She laughed at this comment, since she is now at the campus level.
In efforts to meet the transfer of learning from campus to district level the following revisions were made: Activity 6a; I excluded district cabinet from this summary activity. I was given permission by the Superintendent to attend the administrative meeting with the superintendent, not the district's cabinet meeting.Activity 14c was redirected to include upcoming District-Wide Staff Development Day and use our district's staff development director. This event takes place on October 21, 2011. This idea was great, because Mrs. Rachel Jones, Staff Development Director attended the Saturday Curriculum workshop and invited Curriculum Coordinator's to assist with the planning of Staff Development Day.
Activity 24d was revised to include the Budget Supervisor or Specialist instead of the campus secretary. The same type of revisions were made to the following activities: 20b Facility and Maintenance Administration, 21a Student Transportation, 17a Student Services, and 35a Issue and Conflict Resolution. Ms. Bahnsen felt that surveys would be a good evaluation instrument to use since several of the summary activities involved interviews and discussions with several resource persons. She recommended being specific by naming the journals, web-sites, or other resources I would review in activities 10a and 37a. She provided suggestions that are noted in the Summary of Activity sections for the corresponding activity.
She asked why I chose to have two Site Supervisors. I explained to her just as I did with Dr. Chargois that I am interested in self-improvement in research and evaluation, as well as curriculum and instruction. Both of you have traveled through the experience of the Superintendent Certification Program. The two stated, with a smile, " It is an honor to be serve as your site supervisor."
Overall, both site supervisor's felt the plan was manageable, but cautioned to review the time management of the projected dates to complete the activities.
It's interesting you are working with two site supervisors - you should get some excellent and varied perspectives for the program. Your internship plan looks impressive. Best of luck.
